Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra talked about the absence of Avesh Khan from the Indian team for the Sri Lanka series. He said that the team needs to have a clear roadmap for him along with the lanky Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna
One of the notable misses from the Indian squad for the Sri Lanka tour was Avesh Khan. Despite the senior pacers Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah not being there, he wasn’t selected for the team and it raised quite a few eyebrows.
India went in with Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Khaleel Ahmed in both the formats while Harshit Rana was selected for the ODIs. Avesh Khan on the other hand was part of the Zimbabwe tour and did a decent job there.
Avesh Khan has been performing well in both domestic and international games that he has played so far. Also, his ability to hit the deck hard has been one of the key factors behind his performance, and him not playing the Sri Lanka tour was surprising.
Aakash Chopra while talking about Avesh Khan stated that he should’ve been around the Indian team. He highlighted that he was part of the reserves for the T20 World Cup 2024 and if they want to invest in him they should play. Speaking in a video posted on his YouTube channel, he explained:
"It's a good question because the team recently went for the T20 World Cup and Avesh Khan was in the reserves. After that, where is Avesh Khan? If we want to invest in him, Avesh Khan should have been around.
“He should have been there on the Sri Lanka tour and he should have played matches in Zimbabwe as well. Where was he - nowhere to be seen.”
So they should start investing in him from now itself - Aakash Chopra on Prasidh Krishna
Aakash Chopra also talked about Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna. He rated the lanky fast bowler very highly, saying that although his numbers are not good but India team should invest in him.
Aakash Chopra claimed that Prasidh Krishna has the potential to be successful at a high level. He urged BCCI to have a clear roadmap for both Avesh Khan and Karnataka fast bowlers. He explained:
"I personally rate Prasidh Krishna very highly although his numbers are not looking very good in T20Is. He has been hit a lot whenever he has played but I would like to invest.
“He has the potential to be a very good bowler at the highest level also. So they should start investing in him from now itself and there should be a clear roadmap for Avesh Khan as well," Aakash Chopra concluded.
Prasidh Krishna was a regular member of the Indian team ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. However, his career has been marred by the injuries as well. He made a return through the Ireland series ahead of the 2023 World Cup but after that hasn’t been in the scheme of things.
