Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra feels that Rohit Sharma is falling prey to the bouncer trap set by the England bowlers in the ongoing Test tour. The cricketer commentator Chopra also said that the Indian opener should restrain himself from playing too many pull shots while batting.
During the 2nd innings of the ongoing Lord’s Test, Sharma smashed a bouncer off Mark Wood’s delivery for a six. However, playing another pull shot few balls later ended up in a catch by Moeen Ali at deep square leg. As a result, Sharma lost his wicket for just 21 runs.
England team set up a bouncer trap for the Indian opener, as Joe Root had sent a fielder from off towards the leg side after Sharma smacked Wood for a maximum.
Rohit Sharma Is Allowing People To Set A Trap: Aakash Chopra
While speaking on YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra mentioned raised concerns about Rohit Sharma falling prey to the bouncer trap set by the England bowlers again and again.
“He [Rohit] scores a lot of runs and will keep doing that but this is one thing where he is allowing people to set a trap and if you fall into a trap, then there is a problem because he has been dismissed three times in this series and twice on the bouncer.
“There was a trap set up this time. After the six, three or four players were behind. Fine leg, square leg, mid-wicket. It is almost impossible to keep hitting your way out of a bouncer trap. What you don’t do is sometimes more important than what you do,” Chopra said in the video.
The former Indian opener Aakash Chopra also said that if the Indian opener leaves the pull shot it will be defining factor.
“Rohit Sharma, the Test opener, what is defining him is that he is not throwing the bat and letting the ball come to him. He is stopping himself, that constraint is actually defining him. If he leaves the pull, it will be a defining factor,” Chopra further said.
Rohit Sharma also lost his wicket on a bouncer in the first Test in Nottingham. The right-handed batsman pulled a shot off Ollie Robinson’s bouncer, which was caught by Sam Curran at fine leg. It ended a good 97-run partnership between Sharma and KL Rahul for the opening wicket.
In the 1st innings of the ongoing Lord’s Test, Rohit Sharma smacked a fabulous 83-run knock, shattering his highest-ever overseas score. At the end of Day 4, India rails at 181-6 in the 2nd innings with a 154-run lead. With lone batsman Rishabh Pant remaining on the field, Virat Kohli and company face great danger of getting bowled out for a low score.
