Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to take massive action after the Pakistan National Cricket Team's loss to the India National Cricket Team in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. As per the reports in PTI, it is learned that head coach Aaqib Javed is all set to be sacked along with his support staff.
Pakistan National Cricket Team had a horrible outing in the game against India National Cricket Team. The hosts of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 suffered a massive 6-wicket loss at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
Aaqib Javed said Pakistan would surprise India, faced 6-wicket loss against arch-rivals
Pakistan National Cricket Team entered into the game on the back of the disappointing loss against the New Zealand National Cricket Team and it was expected that they would set the stage on fire against India, especially with head coach Aaqib Javed mentioning that they would surprise India.
But when it was time to set up, the Pakistan National Cricket Team came up with a torrid effort. The Mohammad Rizwan-led side got all out for just 241 runs and then couldn't put pressure on the batters with the ball as the opposition chased the target with 7 overs to spare.
Following the loss, the Pakistan National Cricket Team faced a lot of criticism. Former cricketers in Shoaib Akhtar, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Salman Butt, Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younis didn't go easy on the team including head coach Aaqib Javed, saying that the team wasn't settled at all with a lack of options.
The current support staff will be overhauled now after the poor show in the Champions Trophy - Source close to PCB
A source close to PTI mentioned that the team will be undergoing an overhaul in the coaching staff led by Aaqib Javed. Although he said that there isn't any confirmation about separate head coaches, he said action will be taken. Speaking to PTI, he said:
“Obviously, there is backlash over the team’s performance in the CT. The Board hasn’t decided as yet on whether the team will have separate head coaches (for red and white ball teams), but one thing is certain: the current support staff will be overhauled now after the poor show in the Champions Trophy."
PCB will look at former players for the job - Source close to PCB
The source also added that PCB will be looking to add former players to the coaching staff after Aaqib Javed. According to him, foreign coaches won't be accepting the role with the way the board treated Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillispie. He added:
"But the way the Board has been changing coaches and selectors since last year, it will be a challenge to find other candidates for these positions. The PCB, after the way Kirsten and Gillispie resigned, is not going to get a choice of field when it comes to foreign coaches, so most probably the PCB will look at former players for the job."
Pakistan National Cricket Team almost are out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. If the New Zealand National Cricket Team beat the Bangladesh National Cricket Team in the ongoing game, then it would mean curtains for the Mohammad Rizwan-led side.
