Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar dominated bowling attacks around the world for a major part of his international career but just like every other batter, Tendulkar too faced issues against specific bowlers. The likes of Hansie Cronje, Abdul Razzaq proved to be the Achilles heel for the champion batsman during his storied career.
In the case of Abdul Razzaq, it was the vicious inswinger of the former Pakistani seam-bowling all-rounder which used to trouble Sachin Tendulkar a lot.
Razzaq dismissed Sachin on as many as six occasions in 50-over cricket.
Recently, Abdul Razzaq spoke about his strengths as a bowler and the reasoning behind him troubling the master batsman during his career.
“Naturally, when you have that kind of delivery with yourself in international cricket, or you’re unplayable, you’re bound to have success. Otherwise, the normal bowlers have no swing, they can’t execute yorkers and can’t create any hype,” Abdul Razzaq said on Geo News when asked about his success against Tendulkar.
“In the beginning, I used to bowl effective in-swing and reverse swing the ball nicely as well. You can’t call it a weakness. You can call it a nice ball. It’s possible that he (Tendulkar) had something else going on in his mind, perhaps he was expecting out-swingers,” he added.
Apart from being a brilliant swing bowler, Razzaq was a mighty fine lower-order who played several match-winning knocks for his team during his career.
When asked about which role-batting or bowling- did Abdul Razzaq enjoy the most during his career, the former all-rounder said that he loved leading from the front in tough situations with both bat and ball.
“I used to be such an observer that I loved leading in situations. I used to love batting or bowling in tough situations,” he added.
