Three Indian players get no game-time on the England tour 2025

The ongoing five-match Test series between India and England is in the hosts' favor 2-1, with the fifth and final match currently underway at Kennington Oval, London.

India made four changes to the line-up for the series finale. Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Anshul Kamboj, and Shardul Thakur were replaced by Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, and Karun Nair.

As India fielded the playing XI for the fifth Test, three players found themselves on the unlucky list of not getting any opportunities in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.

The three players who warmed the bench in all five games were Abhimanyu Easwaran, Arshdeep Singh, and Kuldeep Yadav. Easwaran would consider himself the most unfortunate one because he has been a part of the Test squad for a very long time, but is yet to receive his debut cap.

Since Easwaran was first selected in India's Test squad, 961 days have passed, and the veteran batter continues to stay on the bench. A total of 15 players have debuted since his first inclusion in the squad, and even Karun Nair has made a comeback after eight years.

But Karun Nair wasn't in the team during the period when Abhimanyu performed - Ranganathan Easwaran

Abhimanyu Easwaran's father, Ranganathan Easwaran, is heartbroken seeing his son's constant snubs, and he said that the batter has consistently scored runs, but the Indian team management isn't giving him opportunities.

"I'm not keeping a count of the number of days that Abhimanyu has been waiting for his Test debut. I am counting the years; it has been three years now. What is the job of a player? It is to score runs. He has done that. People said he didn't perform in two India A matches during the last tour of Australia and didn't get into the team, which is fair enough.

"But Karun Nair wasn't in the team during the period when Abhimanyu performed before the BGT. Karun wasn't picked for the Duleep Trophy or the Irani Trophy. Abhimanyu scored close to 864 runs if you consider the period from last year to the current year," said Abhimanyu's father, Ranganathan Easwaran, in an interaction with TimesofIndia.com.

They gave a chance to Karun Nair - Abhimanyu Easwaran's father

Ranganathan further said that the team management put faith in Karun Nair, but not his son, which is disappointing.

"Then how do they compare? I don't understand. They gave a chance to Karun Nair. Fair enough, he scored 800-plus runs. The selectors have put faith in him," he added.

Ranganathan was also furious to see IPL performers getting preference in the Test team, hinting at Sai Sudharsan, and revealed that he has been in constant touch with his son to provide him encouragement.

"My son looks a little depressed, but that is bound to happen. Some players jump the gun based on IPL performances which earn them a spot in the Test team. IPL performances should not be counted while selecting the team for the longest format. Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, and Irani Trophy should be the basis for Test selection," Abhimanyu Easwaran's father said.

Overall, Abhimanyu Easwaran has played 103 First-class matches and has scored 7841 runs at a healthy average of 48.70, with 27 tons and 31 fifties.
