Former Indian coach Abhishek Nayar expressed his frustration during a live broadcast when he spotted Rohit Sharma munching on some popcorn alongside Shubman Gill during the rain break during India's batting innings at Perth.

While India returns to Australia for a three-match ODI series as a part of the preparations for the ICC World Cup 2027, where the Indians will be eager to avenge their defeat in the World Cup 2023 final, the Australians will enter as the proud champions of their sixth title.

"Arey bhai usse popcorn mat de" - Abhishek Nayar to Shubman Gill

Indian batter Rohit Sharma was often criticized for his body structure and for a lack of swift movement or quick running between the wickets. A genuine gem of a fielder during his early days, Rohit slowly transformed into a fielder limited to the inner cycle due to his lack of fitness.

This had led the Indian selectors to question his availability till the ICC World Cup 2027, since, with no fitness, it is very tough for a cricketer to thrive in international cricket till the age of 40.

Former Indian assistant coach Abhishek Nayar lost his cool when he spotted Rohit Sharma munching on popcorn with captain Shubman Gill during the rain break. He seemed agitated by witnessing Rohit ruining his months-long efforts to lose weight.

"Arey bhai usse popcorn mat de (Don't let him eat popcorn)," Nayar said in commentary, urging Gill not to give popcorn to Rohit.

“I think there’s been a lot of talk about the weight loss,” Nayar said on Rohit Sharma's weight loss journey

Before the start of the game, Abhishek Nayar, who was part of Rohit Sharma's journey throughout his amazing weight loss period, opened up about Rohit Sharma's transformation.

“I think there’s been a lot of talk about the weight loss,” Nayar told JioHotstar before the match.

“The initial parts were obviously about getting fitter, getting leaner. I spoke about this before. There was this spitting image of him walking out of the airport after his holiday in the UK. So that was something he wanted to change. He wanted to come back.

"Hopefully, the second statement will be the runs he scores with the bat,” said Nayar with a ray of hope

Though Rohit Sharma's comeback to international cricket didn't go as planned by the batter, since he was dismissed for just 8 runs off 14 balls to Australia's Josh Hazlewood, Abhishek Nayar has revealed his vision for the 2027 World Cup.

“The outlook was obviously the 2027 World Cup — to be fitter, stronger, lighter, and more agile. And the skill has always been there. The fitness has only amplified the skill. It’s helped him move faster. His agility is the best it’s ever been," said Nayar.

“He’s excited. He’s keen. He knows there’s a bit of pressure and talk around whether he’ll reach the 2027 World Cup. The first statement was his weight. Hopefully, the second statement will be the runs he scores with the bat,” Nayar hopes Rohit makes a statement with the bat just like he did with his fitness.
