Former international cricketers Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Pollock have shared their predictions for the top two teams in the IPL 2025 standings. Notably, Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Pollock have excluded the Gujarat Titans (GT) from their choices, leaving the team out of their list of top contenders at the end of the group stage.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured a win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in their recent IPL 2025 clash on Tuesday. Delhi, which has been among the most consistent teams in 2025, registered its third defeat in five games. The result has opened the door for multiple scenarios to determine the final four qualifiers.
The Two That Are There Will Be 1 and 2 - Adam Gilchrist
During a discussion on Cricbuzz, Adam Gilchrist revealed the teams that are most likely to finish in the top two positions in the IPL 2025 standings. Adam Gilchrist picked the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Mumbai Indians (MI).
"RCB and Mumbai are in 1 and 2, aren't they? I think the way Virat's controlling innings and run chases, coupled with the skill of Hazelwood at the moment, is sublime. So I think there's plenty of talent around them. But I'm saying the two that are there will be 1 and 2," Adam Gilchrist said.

Mumbai Looks Like the Most Dangerous Side - Shaun Pollock
Shaun Pollock believes the Mumbai Indians are on track to top the IPL 2025 standings. He predicted they would win at least three of their remaining matches. Pollock also backed Royal Challengers Bengaluru to finish second in the 10-team table.
"I can't see Mumbai faltering. I think they're going to win at least three or so of their next games. Yeah, I actually think Mumbai are going to finish on top," Shaun Pollock said.
"At the moment, Mumbai looks like the most dangerous side — the most in-form team with the most players performing consistently in the XI.
"And if you add to that, I was thinking RCB might come second. Looking at their remaining fixtures, I don’t see them losing more than one — maybe they win two or even three of their last four. So I’d say those two teams," Shaun Pollock added.
RCB, MI Performances in IPL 2025 So Far
RCB have secured 14 points so far and is close to confirming a playoff spot. Their primary focus now is to secure a top-2 finish, which would give them an extra chance to qualify for the final. With four matches remaining in the season, RCB only need to win two of those to guarantee a place in the top 4.
On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians are in second place with six wins from ten matches. The Hardik Pandya-led team is on a five-match winning streak. To secure a top-2 finish, MI needs to win three of their last four games, and two victories may also be enough to secure their spot in the playoffs.
