The knockout game of the Asia Cup 2023 between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore keeps everyone entertained. The main architect behind that has been premier spinner Rashid Khan, who has gained all the spotlight with his antics.
The game seemed to be tilting towards the Sri Lanka team as the partnership between Charith Asalanka (36) and Kusal Mendis (94) put the Island nation in the driver’s seat. Rashid Khan brought his side back in the game as he removed the former with a brilliant delivery and catch off his own bowling.
If this was not enough, Rashid Khan also removed Kusal Mendis by running him out and then followed it up with the wicket of Dasun Shanaka. After he took quick wickets, the intensity of the Sri Lanka team got up eventually and they were all fired up.
The margin of error at that point seemed to very less. However, a misfield at the stage by stage one of the Afghanistan fielders left Rashid Khan in agony. It was during the last ball of the 42nd over when he bowled a googly.
Maheesh Theekshana, who was batting at the time, tickled the down-the-leg delivery to fine leg. The fielder stationed there did sloppy work and left an easy boundary. He dived to save the four but the ball went past him. Rashid Khan was not impressed and he yelled in frustration at his teammate for his effort.
