Afghanistan have put their names in the record books with a commanding win over South Africa in the first ODI at Sharjah. It was a thorough performance from the Afghan bowlers who first bowled out the Proteas for just 106.

Then, barring a slight wobble by the top order, the batters chased down the target quite comfortably in the end to register their first-ever win over South Africa in any format.

A few months ago, Afghanistan were comprehensively beaten by the same opponents in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. But with the recent win, they have surely brought some joy in the faces of their followers and fans.

Mohammad Nabi creates a unique record

Meanwhile, veteran allrounder Mohammad Nabi has also created a record after the victory over South Africa.

With this win, Nabi has defeated 46 teams in his cricket career for the Afghan team. These 46 nations include several lower-ranked teams as well as the top cricketing nations.

From defeating teams like Fiji and Iran to defeating SENA countries, Mohammad Nabi has seen it all. He has been playing international cricket since 2009 and is still going strong. At 39, his experience has been vital in his team's progress over the years.

The Afghan team has made rapid progress over the years. From being a team of a lower division, they have worked their way to become one of the emerging teams in world cricket. They have given stiff competition to the top-quality teams, as is evident in their performance over the last year.

In the upcoming years, they will be a force to reckon with given the immense talent in their country. They have already started performing well in the ICC tournaments as well.

Afghanistan stuns South Africa

Coming to the match, the Afghan team bowled an inexperienced South African batting line-up for just 106 runs in the first innings.

Apart from Wiaan Mulder, who scored a fighting 52, no other batter stays at the crease. For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up 4 wickets while Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar finished with 3-20 in 10 overs.

Chasing a modest target, the Afghan team stumbled after the fall of Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The top order was cautious as South African bowlers created pressure at the start.

But, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai used all their experience to move the scoreboard. Gulbadin Naib played a fine cameo of 34 off 27 balls to finish off the game.
