On Tuesday, June 25, the Afghanistan cricket team qualified for the World Cup semifinals for the first-ever time after thrashing Bangladesh by eight runs via the DLS method in the last Super-8 match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Former cricketers and fans worldwide have been showering the Afghanistan team with praise and well-wishes after their nerve-shredding win over fellow semi-finals hopefuls Bangladesh at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown on Tuesday.

With the cricketing world abuzz with excitement, congratulating Afghanistan on their historic achievement, Tendulkar also hailed their incredible journey and credited their “hard work” and “determination” for their memorable performances in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.
Tendulkar lauded Afghanistan for their remarkable journey to the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals. The former Indian skipper also highlighted their impressive wins over powerhouse teams like New Zealand and Australia in the tournament, saying their win against Bangladesh resulted from their hard work, resilience, and determination.

Notably, before the final match of the Super 8 stage, three teams—Afghanistan, Australia, and Bangladesh—were vying for the fourth and final semi-final spot in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, with India, England, and South Africa already qualified for the knockouts.
Afghanistan's goal was straightforward: a win against Bangladesh would secure their qualification for the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals. Australia, on the other hand, needed Bangladesh to beat Afghanistan, but not by a significant margin, to advance to the semifinals.
I don't have any words to describe the feeling: Rashid Khan
However, Afghanistan had their own plans to shatter Australia’s hopes of making it to the top four of the ongoing tournament, thrashing Bangladesh to join India, South Africa, and England in the semis.
Now, Afghanistan will face South Africa in the first semifinal of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on June 27 at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad & Tobago. On the other hand, Rashid Khan said at the post-match presentation about his team’s qualification: “It's something like a dream for us as a team being in the semifinal. It's all about the way we have started the tournament. The belief came while we beat NZ. I don't have any words to describe the feeling.
The only guy who put us in the semifinal was Brian Lara and we proved it right. I told him we won't let you down. The country will be very proud back home. Being in the semis is big now, we have to go with a clear mind. We'll have to keep things simple and make sure we enjoy the big occasion.”
