Former India National Cricket Team and Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni opened up about his retirement plans from the Indian Premier League (IPL). He said that he will take a call on his future only once the rules and regulations for the 2025 edition of the tournament are announced.

The questions related to the retirement of MS Dhoni are one of the hot topics related to the IPL 2025. The keeper-batter so far hasn't made any confirmation but it is speculated that the right-hander might have already played his last season for the Chennai Super Kings.

Ahead of the IPL 2024, MS Dhoni handed the captaincy of the Chennai Super Kings to young Ruturaj Gaikwad. This almost confirmed that the 2024 edition would be the last for him in the league. This was because, after the 2023 league, he said that he would be pushing himself for one more season as a return gift to fans.

Even after relinquishing the captaincy, MS Dhoni was the leader of the team. Although Chennai Super Kings finished 5th on the points table, the keeper-batter was seen giving his guidance to Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle of matches and helping him with field placements.

MS Dhoni has been a legend of the game, and especially in the Indian Premier League, he has been a big name. The keeper-batter has made a massive contribution to the Chennai Super Kings and has made them most successful in the history of the league, winning five titles as captain.

The fan base of MS Dhoni is such huge that whenever he goes, even the fans of the home team go against their team and chant "Dhoni Dhoni". His aura in the league is unmatched, and it's a no-brainer why fans want him to play for one more season in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

We will have to make a decision which is best for CSK - MS Dhoni

During an event, MS Dhoni was asked if he would be featuring for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 or not. Replying to this, the keeper-batter stated that he would be taking the decision based on the retention rules. He claimed that once the rules are announced, he will be deciding on what will be best for the team. He elaborated:

"There's a lot of time left for the franchises and management to decide on the retention rules and everything. So when all of it is decided, then we will take a decision. So no we don't have the ball in our court.

"When the regulations are decided, then we will be able to take a call...At the end of the day, we will have to make a decision which is best for CSK, and that is the ultimate goal."

The Indian Premier League franchise owners met Board of Control for Cricket in India officials on Wednesday (30th July) to discuss about the retentions and RTM rules. The governing body will soon be making a final decision after the consultations, and the official statement will be made soon.
