The latest interview of England all-rounder Liam Livingston has dropped like a bombshell. Following the interview, South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also spoke out regarding the matter. Will the speaking out process evolve into a movement soon?
Liam Livingston claimed that he had very little idea why he had been dropped from the national cricket team as the team management and officials had barely any significant conversation with him. Livingston accused the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) of excluding him from the team without maintaining any transparency.
Liam Livingston drops a bombshell against the England cricket board
Livingston is one of the most decorated players for the England cricket team in the limited-over formats. The all-rounder, who is known for smashing the ball hard, has played 60 T20 Internationals, 39 ODIs, and one test for England, before being dropped. He last appeared for the team last year for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan. The tournament was a nightmare for the cricketer as he managed to score only 33 runs and took three wickets in three matches.
He claimed that it was Brendon McCullum, the head coach, who informed the cricketer over a phone call that he had been dropped from the team. Liam Livingston claimed that the phone lasted barely for one minute.
"I asked why; they said they wanted to try someone else. That was off Baz (McCullum). Brooky (Harry Brook) sent me a text. Keysy (Director of Cricket Rob Key) said nothing, saying, " I’ll speak to you in the summer. I actually rang him one day and he said he was busy at a test camp at Loughborough and then I didn’t hear from him until the end of September," Liam Livingston ESPNCricinfo.
Liam Livingston got a brutal reality check
It is always a painful incident for any cricketer across the globe to learn about exclusion from the main team. Cricketers are expected to receive clarification from the cricket boards or the management behind the action. In the case of Liam Livingston, the ECB might have failed to make clear communication.
"That probably sums that group up as a collective. That was a bit of an eye-opening experience about the group and the regime: if you’re in, you’re in, and if you’re not in, no one cares about you," he added.
South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also raised his voice
Tabraiz Shamsi shared a couple of posts on the social media platform 'X' to continue the thread. Shamsi made headlines when he decided not to sign a central contract with Cricket South Africa to explore the franchise T20 leagues. The matter between Cricket South Africa and the spinner was resolved after being dragged into a legal process.
Shamsi's last match for South Africa was an ODI against Pakistan on February 12, 2025. And his last T20I appearance for the Proteas was the 2024 T20 World Cup final against India on June 29, 2024.
"It's sad that this is even a topic of discussion! It's wild that it's the same ALL OVER THE WORLD. I think our kids' kids will also retire asking for clarity without getting it lol. I seriously wonder who is gonna be the first person in power that will actually get this right!", Tabraiz Shamsi wrote on his 'X' post.

"Many think it....Many, MANY speak about these things behind the scenes...I'm just not shy to say it out loud hoping to change things for the better for everyone," he said in a different post.
