India captain Rohit Sharma has finally broken his silence on the heartbreaking defeat in the World Cup final last month. The batting superstar looked distraught and struggled to control his emotions after the loss against Australia in the title decider.

While most of the players decided to share their feelings on social media after the loss, Rohit Sharma did not. He has yet to post anything on X after the World Cup final. On Instagram, he recently posted a photo for the first time after the match. The India superstar has now finally opened up on the defeat. India were the firm favorites to win the final due to their stunning performance throughout the competition.

They were the only unbeaten side left in the competition before the final. After winning all of their nine league games, the Men in Blue had thrashed New Zealand by 70 runs in the semifinal to make it to the final for the first time since 2011. However, their winning run came to an end in the final as Australia beat them by six wickets to clinch the World Cup for the sixth time.

Rohit Sharma on World Cup final loss:

In a video released by Rohit Sharma’s official Instagram account, the India captain began by saying that it was very difficult for him to move on after the loss. He also lauded the support received by the team throughout the tournament before expressing his disappointment again over not being able to win the World Cup.

“After the final, it was very hard to get back and start moving on, which is why I decided that I need to get my mind out of this. But then, wherever I was, I realised that people were coming up to me and they were appreciating everyone’s effort, and how well we played. I feel for all of them. They all, along with us, were dreaming of lifting that World Cup, along with us,” Rohit Sharma said.

“Everywhere we went during this entire campaign, there was so much support from everyone who came to the stadium firstly and people who were watching it from home as well. I want to appreciate what the people have done for us, in that one and half month period. But again, if I think more and more about that I feel quite disappointed that we were not able to go all the way,” he added.

Speaking further, he opened up on the adulation he received from the fans for the way he and his teammates played during the tournament. The veteran batsman said that the love from the fans eventually motivated him to move on and start working again.

“For me to see, you know, people coming up to me, telling me that they were proud of the team, you know made me feel good. Along with them, I was healing as well. I felt, okay these are the kind of things you want to hear,” Rohit Sharma said.

“People, when they understand what the player must be going through and when they know these kinds of things and not to bring out that frustration, that anger, it means a lot for us, for me definitely it meant a lot because there was no anger, it was just pure love from people that I met and it was wonderful to see that. So it gives you motivation to get back and start working again and look for another ultimate prize,” he added.
