After Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, another India veteran announces retirement before England tour

Former India A skipper Priyank Panchal announced his retirement from all forms of the game as he finished his career with 8856 runs with 29 tons and 34 half-centuries in domestic cricket.
Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) confirmed the news of the veteran player’s retirement ahead of the India tour of England 2025. Panchal led Gujarat to their maiden Ranji Trophy championship in 2016-17.

Ex-India A skipper Priyank Panchal’s career
Priyank Panchal scored lots of runs in the first-class cricket but didn’t get the opportunity to make his debut for the senior team. Panchal helped Gujarat lift every title at the domestic level.
Priyank Panchal led Gujarat to win the Ranji Trophy in 2016-17. The batter also led his side to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2015-16. Panchal also won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy twice in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
Gujarati batter played his last first-class game in the Ranji Trophy last season against Kerala. Where the Gujarat team’s heart broke as they lost the semi-final against Kerala, based on Kerala’s first innings lead. Panchal scored 148 runs in his last first-class match against Kerala

Gujarat Cricket Association congratulated Priyank Panchal
Priyank played a key role in Gujarat's team success in the domestic circuit. He helped Gujarat win its first-ever Ranji title to Gujarat. Panchal is the second batter in Gujarat's cricket history to score more than 7,000 runs in first-class cricket after Parthiv Patel.
"A prolific right-handed opener, Priyank scored 8856 First-Class runs with 29 centuries & 34 fifties, including a majestic 314*. He led Gujarat to its maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2016-17, also lifting the Vijay Hazare Trophy (2015-16) and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (2012-13 & 2013-14) and captained India A and Gujarat across all formats with grit and pride. We salute his dedication and legacy. Wishing him success ahead!" Gujarat Cricket Board wrote on social media.
Panchal is the highest run scorer for Gujarat's team in all formats of domestic cricket and scored 11,950 runs for Gujarat in 242 matches.
Never make it into the senior team
Priyank Panchal is one of the rarest Indian players who has an exceptional record in domestic cricket but never played for the senior team in his career.
He made his first-class debut in 2008 and became the first player to score a triple century for Gujarat in 2016. The right-hand batter also became the first Gujarat player to score 1000 runs in a single Ranji season.
The right-hand batter led India Red in the Duleep Trophy in 2019-20. After that, he got the opportunity to lead India B in the Deodhar Trophy.
He was named in the standby players for the England series in 2021 but didn’t get the call from the management.
Later, Panchal led the India A team in 2021 against South Africa in South Africa and was then selected in the national Test squad in 2022 against Sri Lanka when he replaced injured Rohit Sharma in the squad.
