England veteran seamer James Anderson continues to only get better with age, raising the bar in the aspect of longevity and fast bowling. On Monday, James Anderson, aged 38, crossed a memorable milestone in first-class cricket, reaching 1000 first-class wickets. The right-arm fast bowler joined an elite bunch of pacers to do so in the format.

James Anderson accomplished the landmark in the ongoing county championship game against Kent for Lancashire in Manchester. The Lancashire ace speedster showcased a magnificent spell of pace bowling as he ended with figures of 10-5-19-7. He got rid of Zak Crawley, Jordan Cox, Ollie Robinson, Jack Leaning, Heino Kuhn, Matt Milnes, and Harry Podmore.

Former South African keeper-batsman Heino Kuhn was his 1000th first-class victim as he edged one to Dane Vilas. Kent suffered a humiliating collapse as Lancashire skittled them for 74. Darren Stevens was the top scorer for Kent with 19. But Lancashire has equally struggled, dragging their way to 108-5 at the close.

James Anderson became the most-capped Test player for England recently:

Meanwhile, the veteran also surpassed former England skipper Alastair Cook’s record 161 Test appearances against New Zealand in June. With 162 Tests under his belt, Anderson became the most-capped Test cricketer for England. But the right-arm seamer endured a lean series as England succumbed to their first home Test series defeat in seven years.

He managed only three wickets in two Tests and could not create the breakthroughs he is always known for. But Anderson’s current form spells doom for India, who will face England in a five-match Test series, starting in Nottingham from the 4th of August. The last time India visited the English shores, Anderson took 24 scalps in five Tests at 18.13. With 617 Test scalps, he is three short of going past Anil Kumble’s tally of 619 and becoming the third-highest wicket-taker in Tests.
