India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill has moved within touching distance of the No.1 spot in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings after his match-winning performance against England in the first ODI at Edgbaston.

Shubman Gill remains second in the latest rankings with 803 rating points, just 11 behind New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, who continues to lead the list with 814 points. India's dominance in the rankings is further highlighted by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who occupy the third and fourth positions respectively, giving India three batters inside the top four.

Shubman Gill narrows gap to Daryl Mitchell in ODI rankings

Gill's unbeaten 80 in India's successful chase against England earned him a valuable boost in the ICC rankings. The India skipper gained 12 rating points to reach 803, reducing the gap to current No.1 batter Daryl Mitchell to just 11 points.

Daryl Mitchell, who recently scored 93 runs across the opening two ODIs against the West Indies, remains at the top with 814 rating points. With two matches still left in the England series, Gill has a realistic chance of overtaking the New Zealand batter and reclaiming the No.1 ODI batting ranking.

Virat Kohli retained the No.3 position with 757 rating points despite missing out on runs in the series opener, while Rohit Sharma remained fourth with 744 points. Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran completes the top five with 712 rating points.

KL Rahul is India's fourth representative inside the top 15, sitting in joint 12th place with 640 rating points, while Shreyas Iyer occupies the 15th position with 636 points.
