7-Year-Old Virat Kohli Tweet Resurfaces After Markram’s WTC Final Ton

Aiden Markram’s brilliant century in the WTC Final has brought renewed attention to an old tweet from Virat Kohli. The Indian star had praised Markram back in 2018 during a Test match in Cape Town, where the South African opener impressed with a gritty 84 off 145 balls against Australia.

Following Markram's latest heroics, Kohli’s seven-year-old comment has resurfaced online and is being widely shared, with fans applauding his early recognition of Markram’s potential.

Back on March 24, 2018, Virat Kohli took to social media, stating, "Aiden Markram is a delight to watch!"

Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma Anchor Chase With 143-Run Stand

Earlier on Day 3, Mitchell Starc helped Australia extend their overnight lead with a crucial partnership alongside Josh Hazlewood. Starc remained unbeaten on 58 off 136 deliveries as Australia were eventually bowled out for 207.

While defending a target of 282, Starc made an early impact with the ball, removing both South African openers. However, Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma steadied the innings with an unbroken 143-run stand for the third wicket, leaving just 69 runs required for victory.

Markram anchored the chase with a composed century. He survived a nervy moment on 23 when an edge off Pat Cummins flew between the wicketkeeper and first slip but looked confident thereafter. Bavuma was dropped on 2 by Steve Smith.

Aiden Markram Becomes First South African to Achieve This Milestone

Aiden Markram etched his name into the history books. He became the first player to score a second-innings century in a WTC final and only the third overall to notch a ton in the summit clash, following Steve Smith and Travis Head. They achieved the feat against India in the first innings of the 2023 final.

Markram also became the first cricketer to register both a century and a wicket in a WTC final. He joined an elite list as the 16th player to score a century in the final of any ICC event and the first South African to achieve this milestone.
