Former India batsman Sachin Tendulkar believes the unbroken 104-run partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja might have taken the ongoing second Test away from Australia. India were firmly in the driver’s seat when day two of the Boxing Day Test ended at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

At stumps, the visitors were on 277 for 5 to secure a handy 82-run lead, with Rahane going strong on 104 and Jadeja on 40. The match was finely poised when Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat after Rishabh Pant’s departure. Australia had reduced India to 173 for 5 after being bundled for 195 in their first innings.

But from thereon, Rahane and Jadeja forged a strong partnership to put India well on top. The stand-in skipper went on to score his first century as captain and received good support from Jadeja as the duo made sure India do not lose any more wicket after Pant’s dismissal. And Sachin Tendulkar believes Rahane and Jadeja have done just enough to ensure a win for their team in the game.

In a series of tweets, the batting legend praised Rahane’s captaincy and the efforts of the bowlers and debutant Shubman Gill.

“@RealShubmanGill got off to a good start on debut with some good shots and looked comfortable at the crease. @ajinkyarahane88 and @imjadeja have stitched a very crucial partnership which may just take the game away from Australia,” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.

“Last but not least, fantastic knock by @ajinkyarahane88 who not only looked solid in his defense but was also looking to play attacking shots. He kept the momentum going really well,” added Sachin Tendulkar.
