Ajit Agarkar & Co. desperate to drop Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli: 'Selectors waiting for them to fail'

Former Indian batter Mohammad Kaif has always been voicing his rigid thoughts about Indian selectors, and in another major development, he has mentioned that several selectors are waiting for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to fail.
There was too much buzz around the future of Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma before the start of the Australia tour, since the two had retired from the two other formats, and their chances to keep up their good form with playing such limited international matches looked insignificant.
However, the two veterans made a startling return to international cricket. The Indian will have these two play in the upcoming series against South Africa and then against New Zealand. This would be followed by the IPL, and then India would be traveling to England for a white-ball tour. Hence, there is plenty of white-ball action awaiting the two greats until the next World Cup in 2027.
Rohit Sharma finished the Australia tour as the highest scorer for India
Rohit Sharma was the greater dominant batsman in the series, as he has always been against Australia. Averaging a solid 57.7 against Australia, he has the highest ever average for a player in the history of the game against the mighty Aussies in ODI cricket.
Rohit scored a stunning 73 at Adelaide under very tough conditions to bat on, as he held his nerve and guided India skillfully through the tough phase despite the early dismissal of Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli. The SCG has always been a second home for Rohit, as he smacked another hundred here, registering 202 runs across the three matches.
Rohit averaged 101 in the series and has batted with a strike rate slightly lower than his usual, but his composure has impressed more than anything in the series. He was part of a 118-run stand with Shreyas at Adelaide and then a 168* run stand with Kohli at Sydney.
"In the back of their mind, they know that people are waiting for them to fail," Mohammad Kaif revealed
Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has expressed strong support for Indian batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He has, however, made a very controversial remark claiming that many selectors are waiting for the duo to fail so that they can axe them from the ODI setup ahead of the next World Cup in 2027.
"In the back of their mind, they know that people are waiting for them to fail. There are selectors and some media people. Ab to zid bhi hai Virat Kohli ki, Rohit Sharma ki (both of them are determined). Look at their face, they appeared focused but calm," claimed Kaif.
"They have that extra determination. They will be determined to go on their terms in this format and not to give anyone a chance to remove them from the team," Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
"You need Rohit Sharma on South Africa's bouncy track. Same with Virat," Kaif's verdict on Indian veterans
The veteran duo, with their 168-run partnership, set the record of the 12th 150+ partnership between them, equalling the former record held between Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly previously for India. This seemed like a statement from them that they have their eyes set on the 2027 ICC World Cup.
Mohammad Kaif also shed light on how not only their experience but also the South African conditions demand players like Kohli and Rohit in the XI for the World Cup.
"In South Africa, it is a must to have Rohit and Virat in the squad because of the experience they bring along. You need Rohit Sharma on South Africa's bouncy track. Same with Virat. He plays well on fast, bouncy strips. Rohit Sharma has shown that age is just a number. You only fix things when they're broken. People support Rohit and Virat because they know they haven't done anything wrong," Kaif added.
