The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had its 95th Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the board's headquarters in Mumbai. After the meeting’s conclusion, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia provided an update on the future of the current chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure, after three years of service, is set to end in September. He has the option of an extension for a year.

Ajit Agarkar was appointed as the chief selector ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023 in July. Since then, under his tenure, there have been some tough and controversial decisions that have been taken, but India has also won three ICC trophies (T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy 2025, and T20 World Cup 2026).

Devajit Saikia, while speaking to the media after the AGM meeting, revealed that there are two more weeks to decide on the future of the current chief selector, and they will take a decision on whether he will be extended or relieved of his duties. The decision will be taken soon by the board.

Devajit Saikia said (as quoted by Hindustan Times), "There are still 15 days to go for Chief selector's tenure. We will take a decision soon."

Previously, it was stated by BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla that the board has asked the top officials to take a call on Ajit Agarkar's decision. Despite all the confusion and tensions, the former India all-rounder picked the squad for the forthcoming ODI and T20I series against West Indies and India's A team as well.

Apart from that, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia provided an update on reports that the Indian team had urged the board to change the venue of the fourth India vs Australia Test of the BGT 2027 series from Ranchi to another location.

He said while speaking to the media (as quoted by PTI), "There are still 6-7 months left. Please wait for a while. We will take a call. We don't have any such request or proposal that there are some issues regarding Ranchi Test."

Previously, Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) secretary Saurabh Tiwary denied all the rumours that Ranchi will be replaced as a venue.

According to reports

Arun Singh Dhumal of Himachal Pradesh and M Khairul Jamal Majumdar of Mizoram have been re-elected to the IPL Governing Council.
