England’s batting coach Marcus Trescothick has opened up about the two heated moments involving Joe Root-Prasidh Krishna and Ben Duckett-Akash Deep after the end of Day 2 of the ongoing fifth and final Test at The Oval.
At The Oval, things got a bit heated between the England opener Ben Duckett and Indian fast bowler Akash Deep during the first session of the ongoing final Test. It all began when Duckett tried to mess with Akash’s confidence by saying, “You can’t get me out here.”
Well, then Akash didn’t say anything back, but Duckett showed off by hitting a reverse ramp shot, which made the English crowd cheer loudly. But Akash Deep didn’t let the moment get to him. He stayed calm and focused and soon got his revenge.

The Indian pacer bowled Duckett out for 43 runs with a sharp delivery that was caught behind by wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. Duckett had hit five fours and two sixes during his quick knock. After dismissing the English opener, Akash celebrated boldly.
He pumped his fist right in front of Duckett, then smiled and mockingly wrapped his hand around his shoulder, smiling and exchanging a few words with the England opener. KL Rahul quickly stepped in and pulled Akash away before things got worse.
Akash Deep's provocative celebration might be seen as a violation of the ICC’s rules on "inappropriate physical contact." Well, Marcus Trescothick wasn’t happy with the bowler’s celebration.
The coach said that Akash Deep was lucky Duckett didn’t react angrily. He also stressed that if this had happened in his time, players wouldn’t have stayed as calm as Duckett did on Day 2.
Players would have just dropped the elbow on Akash Deep in my days: Marcus Trescothick
Marcus Trescothick said at the press conference after the end of Day 2, “I don't think I've ever seen a bowler do that after getting someone out. You see, he obviously has many words, and we've seen it within the series on both sides, but it was just different, wasn't it? I was just laughing and joking about it. You put your head down and walk off. Your job is done at that point.”
He further noted, “There's probably no need to sort of walk him off in that fashion. It was different, yeah. Back in my day, a lot of players would have just dropped the elbow on him or something else entirely. But this was lighthearted.”
Marcus Trescothick downplays Joe Root’s outburst at Prasidh Krishna
Meanwhile, Marcus Trescothick also played down the tense moment between Joe Root and Indian fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, despite England’s batting maestro looking unusually angry during the incident. Root had a fiery exchange with Prasidh while running between the wickets.
It was a rare sight for the fans, as the usually calm and composed Root lost his temper and shouted at the Indian bowler. Prasidh Krishna admitted that he tried to disrupt Joe Root by saying, "You are looking in great shape."
But the bowler was shocked by how the veteran England batter reacted and abused him at The Oval. However, Root’s were not picked up by the stump microphones.
Joe Root just chose a different route to respond: Coach
Trescothick signed off by saying, “It was nothing out of the ordinary. Just a bit of chat, what you’d normally hear during a competitive game. Joe might’ve reacted a bit differently than usual, but it wasn’t anything serious.:
"Normally, he is the sort of guy who just laughs and giggles and allows things to happen, but today he just chose a different route. Everyone has their own method of dealing with that sort of approach, and today Joe bit back.”
