Akash Deep declares Rohit Sharma the greatest captain in history

India National Cricket Team pacer Akash Deep talked about playing under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He said that he was very fortunate to play under a senior batter as he made things very easy for him.

India National Cricket Team pacer Akash Deep, since the last few months, has been a key part of the Test team. The pacer made his debut for the side in 2024 against the England National Cricket Team under Rohit Sharma and made an immediate impact with his impeccable lines and lengths.

Akash, after his impressive effort in the home Tests, made it into the squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The fast bowler didn't get to play the first two games of the series as Harshit Rana was preferred over him. But he made a comeback in the team for the third game.

Akash Deep was very unlucky but he bowled his heart out for the team. The pacer played two games in Gabba and Melbourne but managed to take five wickets at an unimpressive average of 54. He had catches dropped off his bowling, he beat edges ample of time, and also edges didn't carry as well which made things tough for him.

Rohit Bhai keeps things so simple - Akash Deep

Akash Deep, who didn't play the Sydney Test due to injury, was asked about the leadership of Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma. He was all in praise for the batter, saying that he never felt like he had just begun my international career. He stressed that Rohit made things simple for him. Speaking to Dainik Jagran, he explained:

"I got the opportunity to play under Rohit Bhai’s captaincy, and I consider myself fortunate. Rohit Bhai keeps things so simple that I never felt like I had just begun my international career.

"I have played in domestic cricket and the IPL, and back then, I thought the international level would be much more challenging. But the way Rohit Bhai simplified everything made it very easy for the players. I believe he is the greatest captain."

Akash Deep, in an interview with PTI, also lavished rich praise for Rohit Sharma, saying that the batter always told him that he could take a wicket on every ball. He said that the skipper always briefed him about his role. He added:

"Rohit bhaiyya had a lot of trust in me that I can take wickets anytime, 'Woh bolte hai hai ki mujhko lagta hai tum har ball pe wicket le sakte ho. I would be given a brief that in case I am not getting wickets, I should do the holding job at one end, slow down the game and run-flow so that things are under control.

"My endeavour was to maintain discipline, bowl in good areas and wait for the batter to make a mistake...doesn't matter if the ball is new, semi-new or old," said the pacer.
