Right after joining the Lucknow Super Giants camp, Akash Deep has dropped a major hint about Mayank Yadav’s return to action in the ongoing IPL 2025. Last month, LSG head coach Justin Langer had revealed that Mayank Yadav will probably return at the back end of the season.

But it seems like the young Indian pacer will join Lucknow Super Giants sooner than expected. The LSG retained Mayank, who is known for his fiery speed, for INR 11 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction despite the fact that he played only four matches in the last season.

The 22-year-old has struggled with fitness issues since the IPL 2024 season. He was ruled out for the season due to an abdominal injury.

After recovering, Mayank Yadav made a comeback in a T20I series against Bangladesh, where he claimed four wickets at an economy of 6.92. But then the young speedster missed the England series due to injury.

Just as the LSG pacer was bouncing back from a back injury, a toe injury set him back again. According to ESPNcricinfo, Mayank is now recovering from a lumbar stress injury as well as a toe injury, but he has started bowling again at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Akash Deep reveals Mayank Yadav almost ready for LSG comeback

Meanwhile, Akash Deep has already joined the LSG team, and he is expected to play against the Mumbai Indians on April 4 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

The Bengal pacer has been out of action since December 2024 after suffering a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia. He had been recovering at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is now set to make his comeback with the LSG against the MI on Friday.

After joining the team, Akash revealed that Mayank Yadav’s rehab is going perfectly, and he is expecting his teammate to join the LSG squad sooner than expected. The Indian pacer was quoted as saying by Times of India, “I believe it’ll be good if he can join the team soon.”

Akash Deep feels lucky to have the opportunity to play under Zaheer Khan

The Indian pacer will have the opportunity to train under the legendary bowler Zaheer Khan at the LSG, and he feels fortunate to have the opportunity. He believes that Zaheer’s experience will help sharpen his skills, fix weaknesses, and improve his variations during their time together in the IPL.

Akash signed off by saying, “I’m lucky to have the opportunity to play under such a great coach, even if it’s just for 2-3 months. His international experience is excellent, and he will identify and strengthen my skills and fine-tune my weaknesses and variations.”

Notably, the LSG had suffered a narrow defeat of one wicket against Delhi Capitals in their IPL 2025 opener, but they staged a strong comeback, thrashing Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets, but then Punjab Kings got the better of them in their third IPL 2025 game.
