Young Indian pacer Akash Deep stole the spotlight alongside Mohammed Siraj on Day 3 as they bowled out England for 407 in their first innings and helped the touring side to take a vital 180-run lead in the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston.
Akash and Siraj ran through England's batting lineup by taking all ten wickets together. Six England batters, including Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Ben Stokes, Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue, and Shoaib Bashir, recorded ducks, highlighting their dependence on Harry Brook and Jamie Smith.
Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj rattle England, India take control at Edgbaston
Playing his first Test in England, Akash Deep delivered a fiery performance that rattled England’s top order.
On Day 2, the Indian pacer rocked the hosts early by removing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope for ducks, and then he returned on Day 3 with the same fire, taking two more wickets and completing a stunning four-wicket haul in the ongoing second Test at Edgbaston.
His most significant breakthrough came when he dismissed a well-set Harry Brook, who had threatened to drag England back into the game with a gritty 158-run knock. Despite his heroics in the first innings at Edgbaston, the fast bowler’s place in the next Test remains uncertain.
Making his Test debut earlier this year against England and returning to the side after nearly eight months, Akash has made every ball count, and now he is only focused on delivering his best to help India win the ongoing second Test to level the five-match Test series.

Akash Deep uncertain for Lord’s Test despite his heroics at Edgbaston
After the end of Day 3, Akash Deep revealed that he wasn’t sure if he would be playing at the Lord’s Test, as Jasprit Bumrah is all set to return to the playing XI after missing the ongoing second Test due to workload management on the England tour.
Akash Deep said after the end of Day 3’s play at Edgbaston: “We have only two days for this Test match, and this match is very important for us to win. So, I am not thinking about the third match at all. I believe that I have to put my energy into these two days. After that, I will consider it. The team will decide whether I will play or not. No, not at all. I don't know if I'll play. The team makes this decision. We get to know one day before the game.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal falls to DRS drama, but India marches ahead with a 244-run lead
Meanwhile, India ended Day 3 in a strong position, reaching 64 for 1 at stumps with a solid lead of 244 runs over England in the ongoing second Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The only setback was the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was trapped leg-before by Josh Tongue in a DRS drama. He had to return to the pavilion after scoring only 28 runs in the second innings.
Despite that early blow, KL Rahul looked confident, staying unbeaten on 28, with Karun Nair (7*) giving him support at the other end at Edgbaston. The Indian team is now firmly placed to push for a series-leveling win as they chase their first Test series win in England since 2007.
