IPL 2025 is set to resume on May 17, Saturday. Following an increase in tensions on the border between India and Pakistan, the 2025 IPL season was suspended on May 8. BCCI has now announced the new schedule for IPL, and it's reported that most overseas players are unlikely to return to the IPL for the last stage of the season.
Now, after every possibility, Cricket Australia shared their thoughts on whether Aussie players will take part in the remainder of the season. Earlier, the IPL 2025 season was set to conclude on May 25, but with nine days of play called off, the 2025 season will end on June 3.
Australia players’ schedule after IPL 2025 final
Australia is all set to play in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa. The final will be played on 11 June, just 8 days after the IPL final.
Cricket Australia will also look into their players ‘ workload management before the big final, and this situation puts them in a wily situation whether to send their players back to India or not.
Cricket Australia’s statement on sending players to India
Cricket Australia stated that they will be supporting the decision of every player, and the decision of returning to India for the remainder of IPL 2025 will be totally upon the players, not on the cricket board.
CA will support players in their individual decisions whether to return to India or not," Cricket Australia shared a post on their social media handles.
"Team management will work through the preparation implications for the World Test Championship final for those players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches. We are maintaining communication with the Australian Government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety,” Cricket Australia added.
Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are sure to be out for the remainder of the tournament.
Pat Cummins, the skipper of Sunrisers Hyderabad and his teammate Travis Head might come back for the last three matches for their team because Hyderabad are already eliminated from the tournament, and their last match is on May 25.
They can easily take rest after IPL 2025. But it is not confirm that whether both will come to India or not.
Which team will suffer most if Australian players backout from remainder of IPL?
Punjab Kings will hit most if Aussies decide not to come back to India because they have an Aussie core in the overseas players list.
Punjab are also in the contention of IPL 2025 playoffs and currently are on the second position in the points table.
The BCCI told franchises to have a chat with every overseas player about whether they are coming for the IPL 2025 final phase.
