The Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has praised Oman for playing some good brand of cricket and stated that India wanted to give some batting exposure to all their players after they missed the chance during the first two games. He also cited 'winning' as the main mantra and sidelined his batting goals.
India played their final Asia Cup group match against Oman. Since they had already made it to the Super-4 stage, India opted to rest a few of their players, which included premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah and current No. 1 T20I bowler Varun Chakravarthy.
However, ICT fans were surprised by India's uninterested performance, especially from Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who did not come in to bat despite 8 wickets falling. India won the match by a close margin of just 21 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav reveals the real reason behind swapping India's batting order
Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav appeared in a press conference ahead of their first Super-4 match, which will be played between India and Pakistan on Sunday. He provided his insights on the chaotic Indian batting order against Oman.
The reporter asked, "Were you giving exposure to all the players or were you surprised by Oman's spirited show?"
"From our batting point of view, our batters did not get a lot of game time. Starting from Sanju, Hardik, Axar and even Dubey. Tilak also didn't get to bat for a long time against Pakistan," said Suryakumar Yadav.
"As for Arshdeep and Harshit, you may know that Harshit is someone who can bat, so we wanted to see how he can bat in the last 3-4 overs," Surya clearly stated the importance of batting depth for India. When 1 or 2 overs were left, Arshdeep said he wanted to go in to bat, and I said no problem, you can definitely go in, it's completely fine."
Indian skipper praises Oman's good brand of cricket
When the reporter questioned him about Oman's dominance against the World Champions, which was evident to the entire cricket fraternity yesterday, Suryakumar had a very respectful and quirky statement up his sleeve.
"See I feel they played some good brand of cricket. I said in the post-match press conference as well. There was a little bit of due, but that is not an excuse, they batted really well," remarked the Indian skipper.
"I bat or I don't bat, winning the game is more important" - Suryakumar Yadav
Though he received immense criticism from several Indian fans as well for not having come out to bat against the opposition, Suryakumar Yadav, through his statements, has imparted a great message to captains.
He gave batting opportunities to many of his players and also kept the word of pacer Arshdeep Singh in order to keep him motivated. A true captain is one who leads from the front and backs his players, and just like MS Dhoni, SKY has shown the same spirit.
"I bat or I don't bat, winning the game is more important, that's fine," said Suryakumar, through which he highlighted his amazing brand of captain's spirit.
