Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has sent a strong message to Pakistan cricketers amid rumors of a rift between the board and the players. He said that there would be zero tolerance for the players who violate the discipline.
Pakistan Cricket Team has been in the headlines for a while now. Since the loss in the T20 World Cup 2024, there have been a lot of things going around and the entire cricketing system is in a mess. Chairman of the board Mohsin Naqvi has given assurance that he will correct things.
After the Pakistan National Cricket Team faced an early exit from the T20 World Cup 2024, Mohsin Naqvi stated that he would be performing surgery on the team. After his statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq as the selectors of the team.
Apart from this, the Pakistan Cricket Board also denied giving NOCs to Naseem Shah, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan to play in the overseas league. This reportedly hasn't gone well with players and they have expressed their displeasure over the same.
Recently there were also reports that team management expressed their concern over the behavior of Shaheen Afridi as he had heated arguments with the coaches. Head coach Gary Kirsten reported the issue to PCB and accused the fast bowler of lobbyism in the team.
With all the reports around the same, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi came up with a huge statement. He stated that grouping will not be tolerated in the team and players should show unity within the team. Releasing the official statement, he said:
"There will be no compromise on discipline. There will be a zero-tolerance policy against players who violate discipline. There should be unity and consensus within the team. Grouping players will not be tolerated."
I have full confidence in them - Mohsin Naqvi
Mohsin Naqvi also confirmed that they have given the full authority of the team to Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie. He said that they have full confidence in the team and he is hopeful that they will give them positive results. He added:
"Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie are fully empowered. I have full confidence in them. Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie have been given a free hand. Hope both will give the best results."
After removing Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz from the selection committee, the Pakistan Cricket Board included Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie in the panel. Also, captains of the particular format will have authority in the selection committee along with the two coaches of the team.
Pakistan Cricket Team faced a group exit in the ICC T20 World 2024. They lost to the United States of America and India and failed to reach the Super 8 stage. They will now be seen in action when they will lock horns with Bangladesh in the Test series.
