Dhoni celebrated his 45th birthday on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The Ranchi-born wicketkeeper scored 17,266 runs and completed 829 dismissals in 538 international matches before announcing his retirement on August 15, 2020. Notably, he last played for Team India in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 semifinal.
Virender Sehwag Shares Unique Birthday Message for MS Dhoni
Virender Sehwag took to Instagram to share a unique birthday message for MS Dhoni. He compared the former India captain to the famous Dhoni Waterfalls in Palakkad, Kerala, saying both appear calm on the surface but are incredibly powerful underneath.
Sharing a photo with Dhoni, Sehwag wrote:
“Kerala ke Palakkad mein, ek jungle ke andar, ek waterfall hai jiska naam hai -Dhoni. Koi seedha nahi pahunch sakta. Rasta mushkil hai thoda. Guide chahiye. Teen ghante chalke jaao tab dikhta hai.

Harbhajan Singh Posts Birthday Wish for MS Dhoni
Former India spinner and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh also wished his former captain on X. Sharing a photo collage from their playing days, he wrote, "Happy Birthday Kaptaan. Have a good one."

The trio enjoyed tremendous success together during their international careers. Sehwag and Harbhajan were key members of the Indian team when MS Dhoni led the country to the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup title in South Africa and the 2011 ODI World Cup triumph at home.

MS Dhoni remains the only captain in cricket history to win all three ICC white-ball trophies. He led India to the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
In ODIs, Dhoni scored 10,773 runs in 350 matches at an average of 50.57, including 10 centuries and 73 half-centuries. He captained India in 200 ODIs, winning 110 matches with a success rate of 55 percent. He also finished as India's sixth-highest run-scorer in the format.
Dhoni also enjoyed a successful Test and T20I career. He scored 4,876 runs in 90 Tests with six centuries and led India to the No. 1 spot in the ICC Test rankings for the first time. In T20Is, he scored 1,617 runs in 98 matches and guided India to 41 wins in 72 matches.
He also built a remarkable IPL legacy with Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni has scored 5,439 runs in 278 matches and led the franchise to five IPL titles. He was retained as an uncapped player before the 2026 season but missed the tournament because of injury.
