Trinbago Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell shared his verdict on the light situation that took place in the Eliminator of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 against Barbados Royals. He said that he was robbed and the entire saga was a fu****y".

The Eliminator of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 was marred by a massive controversy. The Providence Stadium in Guyana experienced a floodlight failure and the game was delayed for two hours. This then saw the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method being used to get the revised target.

Trinbago Knight Riders had a great outing with the bat as they posted 168-3 in 19.1 overs before the floodlight failure happened. Skipper Nicholas Pooran was on a rampage as he was batting at 91 runs off 60 balls. Andre Russell also looked threatening at the crease and was at 20 off 18 balls.

However, with the DLS method coming into play after the two hours of delay, Barbados Royals were set a target of 60 in five overs. Although they lost Quinton de Kock early, David Miller came up with a terrific effort as he slammed 50 off 17 balls to take his side over the line and into Qualifier 2 with four balls to spare.

But what surprised many was that the cut-off time for the five-over game was 10:52 pm local time. Even after that time, the game wasn't resumed and it was announced that the match would resume at 11:01 pm local time. This surely was against the regulations of the players.

Had the game been abandoned the Trinbago Knight Riders would won the game and qualified for Qualifier 2. This was because they had more points than Barbados Royals and finished the league stage higher on the points table.

I feel robbed - Andre Russell voices his opinion

Andre Russell voiced his opinion on the same, saying that it was a complete mess. He wasn't amazed with the outcome of the game. Taking to his Instagram account, he explained:

"Am not the person to come on the internet and voice my opinion but this year CPL I feel robbed this light situation was f***ry lights came on just before the cut off time is also f***ry and then 60 off 30 balls is also a bigger f***ry and yes Andre Russell said it right is right f***ry a f***ry but I guess it's just pure f***ry a gwaan."

Trinbago Knight Riders skipper Kieron Pollard also talked about the result of the game, saying that when the light was on, they were keen to play within the rules and regulations of the game. He also lauded David Miller for his heroics with the bat. He stated:

"But when you look at the conditions, it was dark and it was going to be dangerous for both teams. If someone was to get injured in that light or whatever the case is for the sake of cricket, then it would have been hard. At the end of the day, the groundstaff and the persons in charge did what they had to do in order to get a game of cricket in.

"Obviously with the rules, we got a game and here we are now. You prepare for any circumstance. If it had rained, it would have been the same. Once the light was on, we were always ready and willing to play within the rules and regulations of the game. They had a target of 60 to chase and well batted by Miller," he concluded.
