Andrew McDonald Likely To Be Appointed Australia's Men's Team New Head Coach- Reports
Former Victorian cricketer Andrew McDonald is all set to be announced as the new head coach of the Australian Men cricket team.
McDonald was the interim head coach of the team on Australia’s tour of Pakistan. Before that, he was the assistant coach of the team when Justin Langer was the head coach.
The Announcement Is Expected In The Next 24-48 Hours
Justin Langer exited as Australia’s head coach earlier this year in February in controversial circumstances, since then Cricket Australia were on the lookout for a new head coach.
McDonald was sent on the Pakistan tour as the head coach and he seemed to have gotten the confidence of the players on the tour.
Australia toured Pakistan after more than 2 decades and won the three-match Test series 0-1. They lost the ODI series 2-1 but won the lone T20 international.
McDonald was always in the reckoning to get the job but he in the past had indicated that he won’t take the full-time role as he would like to concentrate on only one format. CA, therefore, was considering appointing Trevor Bayliss as the white ball coach and McDonald as the Test team coach.
But that idea was dropped as the CA is planning to give McDonald’s adequate breaks so that he doesn’t burn out.
Former Australian Captain, Ricky Ponting was also in the race to get the job but ultimately it was McDonald who seems to have gotten the nod.
In other news, there are reports that Justin Langer might take up England’s coaching role. It was believed he was too patriotic to consider the role to coach arch-rivals England, but there seem to be new developments there. Only time will tell if Langer indeed gets the top job for England.
