Former PepsiCo CEO has ended her association with the ICC as women director. She was the first independent woman in the world body. Her term came to an end after the Annual Conference in Colombo last month if reports are to be believed.

She was first appointed in 2018 for a term of two years. As per the ICC constitution, an independent woman director is eligible for three terms of two years and in July 2024, she completed six years comprising three terms.

The introduction of an Independent Director, who must be female, was approved by the ICC Full Council in June 2017 as part of wide wide-ranging constitutional change aimed at improving the global governance of the sport.

She attended the meeting online and thanked the ICC for the opportunity. The ICC is now looking for an able replacement to replace Nooyi for the much-coveted position.

Indra Nooyi Served The Post From 2018-2024

Nooyi was first appointed by Shashank Manohar, a former ICC chairman and a former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). She had three terms of two years each. Before serving the ICC Nooyi served PepsiCo as CEO from 2006 to 2018.

With Nooyi's tenure coming to an end, the ICC comprises now a 16-member powerful board- 12 full members, three Associate Nation directors, and the chairman.

“I love the game of cricket. I played it as a teenager and in college, and to this day, I cherish the lessons the game taught me about teamwork, integrity, respect, and healthy competition. I am thrilled to join the ICC as the first person to be appointed to this role.

"And I look forward to working with my colleagues on the board, ICC’s incredible partners, and cricketers around the world to grow our sport responsibly and give our fans a new reason to follow every ball and shot," said Nooyi at the time of her appointment.

Meanwhile, in another major development, Jay Shah is all set to be named as the next ICC Chairman. If there is a likely contest for the post, a candidate should get a minimum of nine votes. However, a contest is unlikely if Jay Shah decides to be available for the post.

Jay Shah To Become Next ICC Chairman?

However, the BCCI secretary, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), has not given way too much into this matter.

"For the election to proceed, at least one additional candidate must enter the race and it's not clear whether there will be a contest at all," said an ICC source in the know of things. "It will depend on what Mr Jay Shah decides. If he files nomination, there will be no election. He will be elected unopposed," the source added.

Irrespective of Jay Shah's appointment, the ICC is seeking a new Chairman as Gren Barclay has refused to sit for the third term. Barclay's term will come to an end on November 1. The new Chairman will start his tenure from December 1.
