Pacer Saqib Mahmood has been called up as a reserve seamer ahead of the second Test between England and India at Lord’s with hosts grappling with injury issues after champion seamer James Anderson joined Stuart Broad as an injury doubt.
Stuart Broad, 35, is unlikely to take part in the second Test after he slipped while undertaking a light warm-up during jogging. He is set to undergo a scan on Wednesday to determine the exact nature of his injury.
Meanwhile, veteran seamer James Anderson has also joined the injury list. According to a report published in ESPNCricinfo, Anderson is suffering from a tight quad and he didn’t participate in the pre-match training session as a precautionary measure.

Should Stuart Broad and James Anderson miss the second Test, it would be the first Lord’s Test since 2007 where England will field a playing XI without their talismanic pacers.
That would also mean that Saqib Mahmood could be in line for his Test debut should England aim to audition him for a role ahead of the 2021 Ashes in Australia. Mahmood, who impressed with his impressive pace and ability to move the ball, could be fighting for James Anderson’s spot in the playing XI with Craig Overton as Mark Wood looks prime to join Ollie Robinson as the first-choice seamers.
Sam Curran is likely to retain his place as the seam-bowling all-rounder while Moeen Ali, who has been recalled to the Test set-up ahead of the second Test, is likely to slot in directly in the playing 11.
