MS Dhoni Hookah

Former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey shared an interesting insight into legendary cricketer MS Dhoni’s bond with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players. Hussey said that Dhoni keeps his room open at all times during the IPL and added that some even enjoy smoking shisha, or flavoured tobacco, while hanging out.

Irfan Pathan and Manoj Tiwary had called out similar habits in the Indian team environment. The debate reignited after an old Irfan Pathan interview went viral, where he indirectly mentioned teammates setting up “hookah” sessions. Fans quickly connected it to Dhoni, despite Pathan not naming anyone.

“Dhoni is just the most amazing guy, his room is available open 24 hours a day. So, anyone can go up there and just sit. He has got his lounge room, players just sit around, they start talking cricket, some of them like the ‘shisha’, you know, the flavoured tobacco stuff," Hussey said while speaking on The Overlap Cricket.

“So, that is their way of socialising and things like that. Credit to Dhoni, he opens his room up, lots of players go up, they bring food up, it is fantastic," he added.

I've Never Seen Him Practice His Keeping Ever - Michael Hussey on MS Dhoni

Michael Hussey shared that MS Dhoni rarely practised his wicketkeeping during training. Hussey said that he spent most of his time in the nets working on his batting and power-hitting.

"I've been a player at Chennai for 8 years, and now coach for about 8 years. I think the only time I've seen him catch a ball was when we wanted to knock in a new pair of gloves. I've never seen him practice his keeping ever, but he bats a long long time. He hits thousands and thousands of balls," Hussey revealed.

MS Dhoni Set for 19th IPL Season as CSK Retain the Legendary Wicketkeeper

Michael Hussey played for CSK for many years and now works as their batting coach. Hussey is considered one of the best players in CSK’s history. He played for the team from 2008 to 2013 and later returned in 2015.

Dhoni has been the main leader of CSK since the IPL began. Under his guidance, the team has won five titles, and he has always created a calm and supportive atmosphere where players feel safe and supported.

Dhoni is still one of the best wicketkeepers in the IPL. His catching, throwing, and quick reflexes continue to stand out, as seen in the 2025 season. CSK have retained Dhoni for IPL 2026, which will be his 19th season in the league. The team has also confirmed that Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue as captain next year.
