Former England captain Michael Vaughan has predicted the time when Indian batting stalwart Virat Kohli might announce his retirement from cricket.
Virat Kohli is currently going as strong as ever at the age of 35 with many claiming that he still has 3-4 years of cricket left in him. At 35, the former India captain is still chasing the dream of winning an ICC silverware being the senior member of the team. His career would have gone on a different level had he won the ICC 50-Over World Cup last year but fate had other plans.
Despite being the highest run-scorer in the tournament, Virat Kohli had failed to make the most out of his form in the finals against Australia. This year, after a roller coaster of an IPL 2024 season where he is still the highest-scorer despite getting knocked out of the tournament, Kohli will be chasing the dream of winning his maiden ICC T20 World Cup title this June.
Michael Vaughan predicts Virat Kohli could surprise people in the next 2-3 years
With the 2024 T20 WC edition set to be his final shot at the shortest format's biggest prize, Virat Kohli will be aiming to replicate his IPL 2024 performance. Although he will hope that team India plays better than RCB did this season, the Men in Blue have bright chances of making it to the knockouts.
While India's chances at the 20-team mega event remain to be seen, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has made a bold prediction about Kohli. While speaking to Cricbuzz, Vaughan explained how he sees the retirement plans of Virat Kohli.
The Englishman feels that this subject is quite tricky given Virat Kohli's impeccable fitness which might allow him a few more years at the highest level. But at the same time, Kohli has a young family to him, and in 2-3 years' time, he might actually want to spend more time with his wife and kids - Vamika and Akaay Kohli.
So in that regard, Vaughan admitted that Kohli may surprise people with his decision in the upcoming years.
"A brilliant season. You talk about retirement with Virat Kohli, I look at this in a way that he can play for long. He is that fit. Unless his mind goes and he's obviously got a young family now. In two-three years' time, everything changes, and he just wants to spend quiet time; I completely get that." - Michael Vaughan said via Cricbuzz.
Vaughan feels Kohli is eager to live a normal life
Michael Vaughan went on to add that Virat Kohli, amidst all the glitz and blitz, is someone who loves to lead a normal life with his family. The former England captain reminded how Kohli enjoyed himself during the 3-month paternal leave he took for the birth of his second child.
Kohli had gone to London with Anushka Sharma and their daughter wherein they were far away from the camera and limelight. Vaughan feels that Kohli's love for normal and quiet time will soon see him retire from the hectic life of a cricketer.
"I've read a few of his comments and quotes and he just absolutely adored that normal life. I think that may take Virat away from cricket like he just wants to go and have a quiet time for a while." - Michael Vaughan concluded.
