Virat Kohli, one of the safest fielders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, dropped a catch, which was not very easy to take. Fans in the gallery were ready to celebrate, but as cricket is a game of uncertainty, even the best fielder on the planet could miss the easiest of the fielding works. Virat Kohli is also a part of the game and missed an easy chance tonight in the opener of the IPL 2026 season during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (RCB vs SRH) match.
On the third ball of the 18th over, Aniket Verma tried to smash Bhuvneshwar Kumar hard down the ground. In the last moment of making the connection, the batter lost focus and most timed the shot. The ball went high in the air. Virat Kohli spotted the ball and ran forward from the long-on region to grab the ball to dismiss Verma.
Virat Kohli almost took the catch.
Virat made a significant amount of ground to come under the ball. He did everything right but failed to grab it. Aniket Verma got an extra lifeline. Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli's wife, who was on the stand, was spotted laughing at her husband's mistake on the ground.

Kohli's misfield can prove costly as Aniket Verma went to play an explosive knock for SRH.
The drop catch proved costly for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru as Aniket Verma played an impactful knock for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The uncapped Indian batter scored 43 runs, facing only 18 deliveries before losing his scalp against Romario Shepherd. Verma smashed four 6s and three 4s in the process. When he departed, his strike rate was 238.89.
He was the second-highest individual run scorer in the match for SRH after Ishan Kishan, the stand-in captain of the team, who delivered a rapid 80-run knock against 38 balls. With the knocks from Kishan, Verma, and Klaasen, Hyderabad registered 201 runs against 9 wickets in their 20-over quota. RCB skipper Rajat Patidar won the toss and invited SRH to bat first.
Jacob Duffy stunned everyone in his IPL debut match.
For RCB, Jacob Duffy proved an exceptional inclusion for them. He got the opportunity to play the opener because of the injury to Josh Hazlewood. In his first fever Indian Premier League match, Duffy, the New Zealand international pacer, took 3 wickets in 4 overs for an economy rate of 5.5. Romario Shepherd also took 3, but his economy rate was on the higher side, 13.5.
