Former India spinner Amit Mishra has sensationally revealed that he hid his real age by a year after struggling to get a chance in the state team.

The veteran spinner spoke on the issue of age-fudging while talking about the funny incident between him and Rohit Sharma during this year's IPL. A video of Rohit pulling the legs of the bowler regarding his age had gone viral on social media.

Rohit asked Amit Mishra about his age and the latter revealed his age to be 40. However, the India skipper was taken aback by the reply as he could not believe that the veteran bowler was just three years older than him. Expressing his surprise, Rohit had said: "What 40? You're 3 years older than me?"

"You made your debut when we in our nappies. That's when you made your debut. You made your debut when you were 20?" added Rohit before Amit Mishra replied: "Yes. 20-21."

Recalling the light-hearted conversation with Rohit, Amit Mishra cheekily said what would have happened had he decided to ask Rohit about his age as well, hinting that the batting star might be older than his real age too.

"If I had questioned that are you 37, what would have happened? But I thought, it's okay, we were joking, and he joked with me. And that's how it is with me, joking around with him. It's been going on for a long time, not just today," said Amit Mishra while speaking on the Shubhankar Mishra podcast.

Amit Mishra reveals his real age:

Speaking further, Amit Mishra revealed that he was not 20 or 21 but 22 years old when he made his debut for Team India. He also disclosed that his coach was responsible for the age discrepancy. He also opened up about the whole story regarding the age issue.

"Let me tell you, I have a one-year discrepancy, and my coach helped with that. I didn't even know about it. The coach called my home and asked for one more year for me. It was quite an emotional story. I was surprised and asked, 'How?' He said, 'From today, you are one year younger; now you have two more years.' I agreed," said Mishra.

The host of the podcast then quickly told Mishra about Rohit's comment where he had said: "You made your debut when we were in diapers."

In reply, Mishra said: "Not diapers, but he said when we were young. I told him, 'I also watched someone play when I was young.' Many people start playing early; it doesn't mean they are now 45 or 50. He laughed and said, 'I'm 37.' I later confirmed and said, 'Are you really 37?' He laughed and didn't say anything."

Mishra was a part of the Lucknow Super Giants team for IPL 2024 but did not get too many chances. He managed to play just one game this season.
