Arshdeep Singh Bowls Consistent Yorkers Against Set Batters; Can Keep MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya Quiet - Irfan Pathan
Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised Arshdeep Singh’s capability of bowling the yorkers on a consistent basis in the death overs, a huge factor behind his maiden callup to the Indian team.
Arshdeep was named in India’s 18-member squad for their upcoming 5-match T20I series against South Africa at home. He was mighty impressive in the IPL 2022 season playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and has deservedly earned his first stint with the national team.
“If you see the IPL numbers in terms of the wickets, the matches are more and the wickets are less, still the selectors backed him and picked him in the squad.”
“There is a reason for that, he keeps the best batters quiet, when he bowls at the death, he keeps Dhoni, Hardik Pandya quiet, bowls consistent yorkers against the set batters,” Pathan said during a discussion on the Star Sports show Game Plan.
“Play him in all the matches and he is a bowler who raises his hand for his team” – Irfan Pathan
Pathan insists that Arshdeep certainly deserves a lot of chances and the management should back the youngster in all the five games against South Africa. This way, he can develop his game even further and give the team a better look at Arshdeep’s potential.
“You picked a left-arm bowler in your squad based on some thinking, because the left is always right. So play him in all the matches and he is a bowler who raises his hand for his team whenever there is a difficult situation, that he will bowl the yorkers and try to pick up wickets,” the former cricketer added.
Arshdeep was one of the best bowlers in the death overs in the IPL 2022 season. He bowled as many as 38 yorkers in the tournament – a total equaled only by Jasprit Bumrah.
