The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 mini-auction is next month, and the retention deadline is less than 10 days away. Ahead of that, there has been a blockbuster trade deal that is set to take place; as per reports, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya are set to be exchanged in a mega deal involving Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings.

The most interesting fact is that Arshdeep Singh is one of the finest bowlers in the T20I format. The left-arm seamer is the only Indian pacer to pick 150 T20I wickets; this showcases his prowess, and most of his wickets have come off the former India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma, as he made his debut in 2022.

Arshdeep Singh's record under Rohit Sharma

Arshdeep Singh made his debut under Rohit Sharma back in July 2022 in Southampton, England. Since then, he has been India’s regular bowler in the T20I format. Despite the absence of bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah, he has single-handedly won matches for the Men in Blue in the shortest format of the game and continues to do the same.

The left-arm pacer under Rohit Sharma has the best record, as he has taken 48 out of 150 wickets while playing under Rohit. His economy has also been under 8 while playing for the former India captain, and he was also in the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad and also delivered some match-winning spells in the tournament, with the new ball and in death as well.

Under Rohit (48 Wickets, 7.8 Eco)
Under Surya (53 Wickets, 9.04 Eco)
Under Hardik (19 Wickets, 9.65 Eco)
Under Shreyas (59 Wickets, 9.43 Eco)

Rohit Sharma to become captain of MI again

The trade between Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh will make a huge statement in IPL history. Arshdeep will join the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, who has been his bowling partner in the Men in Blue side in the T20I format. This would turn into a deadly duo, and the two pacers will wreak havoc against the batters in the tournament.

Hardik’s trade means there will be a new captain for the Mumbai Indians, and as per reports, Rohit Sharma is the frontrunner to become the captain for the franchise once again. The 39-year-old opener was removed as captain after Hardik took over in the 2024 season; MI failed to have its best times under the star all-rounder.

Rohit Sharma's IPL and white-ball record as captain

Rohit remains the most successful captain for MI as, under his leadership, the franchise won five titles, and after Hardik was made captain, they failed to qualify for the playoffs as they finished twice at the bottom of the table and only qualified for the playoffs once in three seasons. With Rohit reportedly coming back, the franchise might want to win the tournament again.

Rohit Sharma has been one of the most successful captains in white-ball cricket for India. Under him, the Men in Blue went to the final of the ODI World Cup 2023, won the T20 World Cup 2024, and also won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Under him, the side has performed in a different and more aggressive way in the ODIs and T20Is.
