IPL 2026 is only a match away from conclusion. This season has come with a lot of exciting moments on the grounds, along with some controversies. Securing the dignity of the league has become one of the main talking points among the top officials of IPL and the BCCI.
Some players are widely famous for their social media engagements along with their on-field activities. With the growing security concerns, the Indian Premier League authority has issued a 7-page advisory for all of the franchises.
I don’t think cricketers need to be content creators: IPL Chairman
Arun Dhumal, the chairman of IPL, explains why they had to issue such advisories to the players and the franchises in the league during an interview with RevSportz. Dhumal clearly states that a cricketer’s focus should be on playing good cricket, not on crating contents, as content creation is a different job.
“I don’t think cricketers need to be content creators. The cricketer’s job is to play good cricket. If they do so, there will be enough and more good content created about them. So they don’t need to turn into content creators and start creating reels, shorts, or other posts. It isn’t needed, and a line had to be drawn,” Arun Dhumal says.

Arshdeep Singh was in the headlines for his social media activities
During the mid-phase of the IPL 2026 campaign, Punjab Kings (PBKS) star Arshdeep Singh captured the headlines, not because of his bowling, but for his Instagram videos and reels. The seamer used to shoot videos with his teammates during the league, which might have raised a red flag.
After the BCCI regulations, Arshdeep Singh and the players in IPL, who were used to sharing content on social media platforms, have stopped doing the same.
Dhumal mentioned that the seven-page advisory, which they have issued, contains the basic fundamentals. The board aims to execute the guidelines properly.
“Most of the things we have mentioned in the seven-page letter were already there,” he said. “If you go and see, you will know there is nothing fundamentally new that we have asked for. Rather, seeing that things weren’t being followed, we needed to reinforce every point, and that’s what was at the root of the letter. Every franchise and every player has now been reminded what is expected of them, and that’s all there is to it.”
Why did BCCI issue the long advisory?
In the advisory, BCCI mentioned that they found some of the incidents violated the protocols, which involved players, support staff, and team officials during the IPL 2026 season. These incidents are alleged to have influenced the reputation of the franchise league and the professionalism of the board.
“It has come to the attention of the BCCI that certain incidents of misconduct and protocol violations have occurred involving players, support staff, and team officials during the course of the current IPL season,” ESPN shared a portion of the advisory released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
“These incidents, if left unaddressed, carry the potential to cause significant reputational harm to the tournament, the franchise concerned, and the BCCI as the governing body. They may further expose individuals and franchises to legal liability and security risks of a serious nature,” it added.
