The much-anticipated Ashes 2023 has already started making headlines. Jonny Bairstow has been missing from the action due to his freak leg injury in September 2022 where he slipped off the golf course field. Jonny Bairstow won’t take part in IPL 2023 & would play the county championship in order to play Ashes 2023.

England head coach Brendon McCullum would be aware of the fact that Australia have got a lethal bowling attack where perhaps they have to tweak their batting approach. Skipper Ben Stokes would be tested as playing red-ball cricket after months of IPL can be quite exhausting.

Jonny Bairstow’s seen everyone doing well & wants to keep-  Darren Gough

According to ESPNcricinfo, it is believed that Bairstow wants to keep the wickets. Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket Darren Gough praised Bairstow to come out from the terrible injury. Gough also pointed out that there are chances that Bairstow might have to earn his place in the England setup. Darren Gough also made it clear that they won’t play Bairstow unless he is 100% fit

“I think Jonny realises there is competition for places. He had his best year ever for England but you know what it’s like, someone comes into the side and it’s hard to get back. He probably wants to give himself as many opportunities as he can. He’s a top player, he’s in a good place mentally with his game. he’s worked out where he wants to be and where he wants to go,” said Darren Gough.

“I think Jonny has said he’d like to keep. He obviously sees a place in the England side – he’s seen everyone do well and he wants to keep. He’s not fit yet; he’s working hard and going well. It’s a case of him getting fit, which is not easy coming back from that injury,” he stated.

“It was horrific. he’s got to come back from that injury and show he’s 100% fit, you can’t play someone who’s not. The ECB wouldn’t clear him if he’s not. Whether he plays for in one game, two games or none of the games before England we’ll see where that goes,” he said.

Jonny Bairstow’s tracking well- Ottis Gibson

Yorkshire’s head coach Ottis Gibson stated that Bairstow would require some time to regain his fitness. Gibson stated that Bairstow could be back to his best at the end of May & was quite optimistic about seeing Bairstow.

“Jonny Bairstow’s had a horrific injury but he’s tracking well. he’s running up and down, he can run in straight lines but he’s not doing much lateral stuff yet.” said Ottis Gibson.

I’ve had a conversation with him and the medical team, who’ve done a great job, they think by the end of May he should be in position to play cricket. Everything is moving in the right direction,” he added.
