Former India pace bowler Ashish Nehra has picked his choice of fast bowlers to form the pace attack of the Indian team for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2022 which will be played in Australia. In the last edition of the tournament, India suffered two big losses to Pakistan and New Zealand in the league stage and despite three big wins in the remainder of matches, crashed out of the tournament.
Interestingly, India failed to pick a single wicket against Pakistan as they chased down the total with all 10 wickets in hand, giving India their first loss in World Cup history to the Men in Green.
As of now, the Indian team is squaring off against West Indies in a series of three T20Is, and won the first match in Eden Gardens Kolkata.
My Choice For The T20 World Cup Would Be Siraj, Bumrah, Shami And Prasidh Krishna: Ashish Nehra
India is without the services of Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, both of whom played in the 2021 T20 World Cup. In the first T20I, India fielded a seam attack comprising Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, and Harshal Patel. The selection committee will have their eyes on building a well-rounded seam attack, as the T20 World Cup will be played on hard and bouncy surfaces in Australia.
Speaking on the same issue, Ashish Nehra revealed his pick of the Indian fast bowling unit for the T20 World Cup in Australia. He chose Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammad Shami. He also added Deepak Chahar to the mix as well.
Nehra said on Cricbuzz: “The World Cup is very far away. If the squad for the World Cup is to be announced tomorrow, there is only one pace bowler from this team who will make it, and that is Siraj. My choice for the World Cup would be Siraj, Bumrah, Shami and Prasidh Krishna. We have seen what he can do, and after these four, comes Deepak Chahar.”
However, the former India pacer left the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar out of the mix but said that Rohit Sharma backing the veteran is a good sign.
Nehra added: “It’s good to see that Rohit Sharma is backing Bhuvneshwar Kumar because he has so much experience. So, can do a change in the playing XI or not, does not matter much.”
While Bumrah and Shami are already penciled in for the T20 World Cup more or less, it remains to be seen which other pacers can stake a claim for the ICC event.
