Former India opener, Aakash Chopra spoke up on Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan’s spin attack as one of the biggest strengths ahead of the Asia Cup which will start from Wednesday (August 30th). Chopra said that the Afghani spin attack won’t let anyone breathe on the crease.

While speaking on his official YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that Afghanistan have a good bowling attack with great spinners. Chopra added that names like Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi, and Rashid Khan make their bowling attack stronger.

“Their bowling is always good. If they get a slightly spin-friendly wicket, they keep you in check and open you up as well. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi, and Rashid Khan will be all over you like a rash,” Aakash Chopra said.

The 45-year-old former batsman added that if the Afghanistan bowling gets a good spin-friendly pitch then they will not let the batsmen breathe.

“If the pitch is assisting spin even more, you might also see Noor Ahmad in the team. If they play Noor Ahmad, then 10 overs each for him, Rashid, Nabi and Mujeeb – they will not let you breathe if they get a spin-friendly pitch,” Aakash Chopra added.

Batting lets them down: Aakash Chopra on Rashid Khan-led Afghanistan’s weakness

Aakash Chopra added that the spin bowlers are very impressive however they don’t have good pacers. The former player praised Fazalhaq Farooqi but also pointed out that Farooqi often fails to bowl 10 overs.

“You might see a slight weakness in fast bowling. Fazalhaq Farooqi bowls very well otherwise but there has been an issue at times when he has had to bowl 10 overs. So that is going to remain slightly 50-50,” the 45-year-old further added.

Chopra said that the batting order of Afghanistan have let them down in the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. The 45-year-old said that the squad have big names and if they can perform, the team can achieve big things.

“Batting lets them down. If you see the last series, they had Pakistan on the mat on more than one occasion but they got stuck in batting. The team looks good when you hear their names and if they are able to bat well and get spin-friendly wickets, they will take your lives,” he concluded.

Afghanistan will start their Asia Cup 2023 voyage against Shakib Al Hasan’s Bangladesh on Sunday (September 3rd) at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
