Asia Cup 2023 Final Venue Likely To Be Shifted From Colombo To Kandy- Report

With rain playing spoilsport in Colombo and threatening to wash out the remainder of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is reportedly contemplating the possibility of shifting the venue for the final.

In Pallekele, the group-stage game between India and Pakistan ended prematurely due to rain. Both the teams had to share one point. And the Super 4 clash between the arch-rivals is in danger of getting washed out too. Rain interrupted in the 25th over of India’s innings on Sunday (September 10) and no action was possible after that due to the wet outfield as well as the rainy conditions.

The India vs. Pakistan clash will now go into the reserve day on Monday (September 11). The game will resume from that point and will be a full 50-overs-a-side fixture on Monday. However, the weather forecast for Monday is not promising at all. In fact, the forecast is far worse and there is a big possibility that the crucial Super 4 clash might get washed out too.

Surprisingly, the other Super 4 games do not have any reserve day in place. After the clash between India and Pakistan, three more Super 4 games are to take place in Colombo and rain could play spoilsport during all the games.

Venue likely to be shifted for Asia Cup 2023 final:

The possibility of a shift in venue is once again doing the rounds. Earlier several media reports suggested that ACC was planning to shift the Super 4 games from Colombo to Hambantota due to rain before eventually deciding against it.

But with rain threatening to spoil the tournament, the ACC is once again planning to shift the venue for the final from Colombo to Kandy. The final is scheduled to take place on Sunday (September 17). The weather forecast for the coming days is not promising either and the ACC could be compelled to make a last-minute change to the venue for the title decider.

According to reports by a News24 Journalist, the plan will depend on the fate of the India vs Pakistan match on Monday. If the Super 4 game gets washed out, the ACC is likely to shift the venue for the final.
