Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar has said that he is optimistic about Shreyas Iyer playing for India in the middle order during Asia Cup 2023. Manjrekar also worries about KL Rahul’s selection due to his niggle.
BCCI on Monday revealed India’s squad for Asia Cup 2023. Players like Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul have made a comeback to the national team. Asia Cup 2023 begins on August 30.
I Am More Optimistic About Shreyas Iyer: Sanjay Manjrekar
While speaking to Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar talked about India’s middle order during Asia Cup 2023. Manjrekar shared his opinions on India’s middle-order batters in the tournament. He said he worries about KL Rahul’s selection due to a niggle but is optimistic about Shreyas Iyer.
“The whole debate is about how 4,5 and 6 are going to look. I worry about the selection of KL Rahul because of his niggle. Shreyas Iyer I’m more optimistic. When we talked about Virat Kohli at number 4, that’s the kind of flexibility we’re talking about”, Sanjay Manjrekar said.
Manjrekar also explained how India can use flexibility while batting during the tournament.
“Not only when the match is happening and to attack a certain bowler. Somebody like a Hardik Pandya can come in when an off-spinner is bowling, Ravindra Jadeja can come in when a left-arm spinner is on. These kinds of moves are commonplace and okay,” Manjrekar further added.
Six teams part of Asia Cup 2023 are India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal. India will commence their journey in Asia Cup 2023 on September 2, when they face Pakistan in Pallekele.
Tilak Varma Picked In Asia Cup 2023 Squad

Yuzvendra Chahal was not picked in the squad and Kuldeep Yadav is picked as the primary spinner for the team. Spin all-rounders like Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are part of the squad. Below is the full squad of India for Asia Cup 2023.
