Former Pakistan pacer Sarfaraz Nawaz has backed Babar Azam-led side to win over India in the Asia Cup 2023 as well as in the ICC World Cup 2023. He believes that Men in Green are more settled whereas the India are getting destroyed.
The exciting month of cricketing action is approaching as Asia Cup 2023 along with ICC World Cup 2023 is around the corner. What is even more enthralling is that the arch-rivals – India and Pakistan – will be up against each other as well and it’ll be a festival of cricket for fans.
India and Pakistan first will be up against each other on 2nd September in Asia Cup 2023. However, there is a high chance that these two might face each other two times more. They first will be playing in the Super 4s stage as Nepal is the third team in their group and if they perform in Super 4 they can be seen facing each other in the final as well.
After the Asia Cup 2023, India and Pakistan are slated to lock horns with each other in the ICC World Cup 2023 on 14th October. It’s fair to say that the matches between the two arch-rivals will be enthralling to watch as they in the last few years have engaged in some mouth-watering clashes.
Sarfaraz Nawaz feels that India have not been able to work out their combination and they are less stable than Pakistan. Speaking to the media, he explained (as quoted by PTI):
“Pakistan has a much more settled and stable outfit for the Asia Cup and World Cup when compared to India. The Indians have still not been able to work out their final combination for these major events. Captains are changing, many new players are being tried out, there are no proper combinations.
“I feel instead of developing the Indian side it is being destroyed. They are always high expectations when you play at home and it creates more pressure. India’s plus point is they have some good senior performers.”
Asia Cup 2023: I am confident that Pakistan can do really well in both of these events – Sarfaraz Nawaz
Sarfaraz Nawaz further went on to say that Babar Azam is captaining the team well and he’s confident that Pakistan will do well. He also lauded the selection committee for the squad for Asia Cup. He explained:
“I am confident that Pakistan can do really well in both these events because we have a settled side and Babar Azam is leading them well. I think the selection committee has also picked a very balanced squad for the series against Afghanistan and the Asia Cup.”
He also lauded Shaheen Shah Afridi as an extraordinary bowler.
“He is an extraordinary bowler and very very lethal in his first two three overs. I have rarely seen a bowler with such control over swing, seam and pace and yorkers with the new ball,” said Nawaz.
Here’s the Pakistan squad for the Asia Cup 2023:
Babar Azam (capt), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Saud Shakeel, Salman Ali Agha, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Tayyab Tahir, Mohammad Haris (wk), Faheem Ashraf, Mohammad Wasim.
