Team India are looking set to receive a huge injury boost ahead of Asia Cup 2023 as their wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul is likely to be available for the competition.
The right-handed batsman has been on the sidelines since May after sustaining a thigh injury during the game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1. The star batsman ended up tearing a tendon in his right leg while chasing a ball in just the second over of their match and was subsequently ruled out of the remainder of the competition.
He has been sidelined since then and has missed the World Test Championship final as well as the tour of the West Indies. While recent reports suggested that the batsman could miss the Asia Cup 2023 as well after not being named in the squad for the T20I series against Ireland, TOI has reported that he is available for the continental championship.
KL Rahul available for Asia Cup 2023:
KL Rahul is reportedly looking set to return to international cricket after fully recovering from a thigh injury. The right-handed batsman could make his much-awaited return to the game through the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
KL Rahul has been sharing his fitness updates on social media in recent days. He recently posted a clip on Instagram where he could be seen batting and keeping wickets at the nets with ease. The report further stated that the coaches and medical experts at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore are satisfied with the batsman’s progress.
The return of KL Rahul will be a huge boost for Team India ahead of the Asia Cup and the all-important World Cup. The wicketkeeper-batsman will not only solve the wicketkeeping dilemma for the team in Rishabh Pant’s absence but will also provide some much-needed strength to the middle order.
Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played from August 30 to September 17 in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. While Pakistan will host four games, Sri Lanka will be the venue for the other nine games. India will open their campaign on September 2 against Pakistan.
