Former Sri Lanka spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan took a dig at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the costly tickets in Asia Cup 2023 and said that it is the PCB that has organized the tournament and decided the prices of the tickets.
In the third Super Fours match between India and Pakistan, the whole R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo was empty, and only a few fans came to watch the game. Earlier, the high-voltage match between the two neighboring countries had not experienced such a low crowd.
The match between India and Pakistan on Sunday (September 10th) was washed away by rain and will be played on the reserve day on Monday (September 11th). The pressure will be on the Men in Blue side since they have to play three consecutive matches without a day gap.
In the Asia Cup 2023, rain has become a major problem which is spoiling all the efforts to host a match. The first India-Pakistan match of the tournament was also canceled without any result as rain played a spoilsport.
If you want to watch the match from the grandstands it is 40000 to 50000 Sri Lankan Rupees: Muttiah Muralitharan
In an exclusive interview with News18, Muttiah Muralitharan hits out at the PCB for setting the ticket prices high. Muralitharan revealed that an Asia Cup 2023 match ticket would cost more than 6,000 Sri Lankan rupees.
The former Sri Lankan player also said that people won’t be able to visit a stadium to watch the match due to the high ticket prices.
“It is the PCB who has decided the prices for these tickets as they are hosting the Asia Cup this year. Sri Lanka is currently going through a financial crisis. The ticket prices are really expensive and they were reduced at the last moment (just before the India vs. Pakistan match in Colombo) but it doesn’t work that way. The ticket prices start from Sri Lankan Rupees 6000 and upwards. If you want to watch the match from the grandstands it is 40000 to 50000 Sri Lankan Rupees which is equivalent to a person’s monthly salary. I don’t think anyone can afford that much money in Sri Lanka,” Muttiah Muralitharan said.
The fourth Super Fours match of the Asia Cup 2023 will be played between India and Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
