Pakistan fast-bowler Shahnawaz Dahani has reportedly fallen in hot water after publicly expressing his disappointment over being left out of Pakistan’s squad Cup squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.
Earlier this week, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced its squad for the continental championship. The same 17-member squad will also play against Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series later this month. The Inzamam-ul-Haq-led panel recalled allrounder Faheem Ashraf and handed a maiden call-up to batsman Tayyab Tahir for the two assignments.
Shahnawaz Dahani, however, failed to make the cut. The Pakistan selection panel has picked Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. ahead of him. Apart from him, fellow pacer Ihsanullah has also been dropped from the ODI squad. And as the squad was announced, Shahnawaz Dahani could not stop himself from venting his frustration on Twitter.
He responded to a tweet posted by former Pakistan cricketer Rashid Latif after the latter shared the List A stats of Pakistani fast bowlers. The list, however, did not have Shahnawaz Dahani’s name. Unimpressed with the tweet, he shot back by writing: “Seems as if Dahani is not a Pakistani pacer??”
The Pakistan pacer also slammed the Pakistani sports journalists for not questioning his absence from the ODI squad, tweeting: “Not even single journalist or cricket analyst even dared to ask questions or show these stats to selectors #Ripsportsjournalism.”

Shahnawaz Dahani in trouble:
Shahnawaz Dahani did not take long to delete both of his tweets. However, the PCB is not happy with the pacer’s reaction and is reportedly set to take action against him. PCB’s legal team is all set to take action against the pacer who is currently in Sri Lanka for the ongoing Lanka Premier League.
He is plying his trade for Dambulla Aura in the competition and is yet to make a big impression so far. In 3 matches, he has picked up 3 wickets at an average of almost 40 and an economy rate of over 10. Meanwhile, Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be played from August 30 to September 17 in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. While Pakistan will host four matches, Sri Lanka will host the other nine.
