Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf opened up on speaking to Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), for shifting the Asia Cup 2023 matches due to bad weather conditions.
On Saturday (September 2nd). Rohit Sharma-led India took Babar Azam’s Pakistan in the Men in Blue’s opening match of the tournament. However, the game was canceled without any result after the first innings as rain started to pour down just before the start of the second innings.
India won the toss and opted to bat first. But the Men in Blue struggled a lot at first in front of the Pakistani pacers. Shaheen Afridi picked up four wickets which included wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravinder Jadeja, and Hardik Pandya.
Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah bagged three wickets each to stop India at 266 runs. For the Men in Blue, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya were the only batsmen to play an eye-catching innings.
Ishan Kishan scored 82 runs from 81 balls with a strike rate of 101.23. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya played an 87-run knock from 90 balls with a strike rate of 96.67.
Before the start of Asia Cup 2023, there was a lot of controversy regarding the host of the matches since BCCI refused to travel to Pakistan for the Continental Cup matches since both the neighboring countries are going through political turmoil for which a decision was taken by the Asia Cricket Council (ACC) to shift India’s matches to Sri Lanka.
However, rain has become a major problem in Sri Lanka which is disrupting the games and the fans are failing to see an interesting game.
Thinking about it: Zaka Ashraf
According to a report by the Press Trust of India (PTI), the ACC is currently thinking of changing the venues of the Super Four matches from Sri Lanka to some other place due to rain.
On Monday (September 4th), Zaka Ashraf was asked by reporters about changing the venues and if he has talked with Jay Shah or not. The PCB chief replied, “Thinking about it.”
India locked horns with Nepal on Monday (September 4th) at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.
