Asia Cup 2023: Super Four Games Likely To Move To Hambantota From Colombo

Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are expected to shift the super four matches of Asia Cup 2023 from Colombo to Hambantota. ACC and Sri Lanka Cricket are expected to announce a decision regarding the same later today.

The decision is being taken considering the bad weather in Colombo over the last few days. Rains have hampered Colombo city and organizers fear wash-out of super four games due to rain. Earlier, the IND vs PAK match of Asia Cup 2023 was washed out due to rain.

Asia Cup 2023 Super Four Games To Shift To Hambantota

All the matches of super four round of Asia Cup 2023 are set to be played in Colombo. It also includes India vs Pakistan clash on September 10. Except for the one game that will be played in Gaddafi Stadium in Pakistan, other games are scheduled to be played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

However, ACC and SLC want to shift the games due to the prevailing bad weather in Colombo. Discussions were also held about shifting the matches to Pallekele and Dambulla. However, Pallekele has not shown good weather conditions while the Dambulla stadium is under maintenance.

As a result, Hambantota is the best choice available for organizers to shift the Colombo matches. However, there is a logistic issue with Hambantota. The stadium is situated near the forest and the hotels are situated 45 km away from the stadium.

As a result, the travelling and stationing of four teams will be a major concern for Sri Lanka Cricket. However, Hambantota does not receive much rainfall during the month of September. Hence, it is a better venue to host the games.

India, Pakistan Qualify For Super Four Round

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan have qualified for the super four round of Asia Cup 2023 from Group A. From Group B, the final two teams are yet to be finalized.

During the super four round, each team will face the other team once. A total of 6 matches will take place. After the super four round, the top two teams in the points table will face each other in the final. Asia Cup 2023 final takes place on September 17.
